The goal is to dominate every single planet in the galaxy, defeating your opponent. STARTING A GAME =============== To start a new game, click File > New Game, or click the statusbar when it says "Click here to start a new game." Add up to five players by typing their names in the numbered boxes (take note of the colors of the numbers; these are the players' colors). The sample map on the right shows what your galaxy will look like. The players' home planets are colored according to their colors, and neutral planets are gray. Click Redraw Map to create a new randomized map. Change the "Neutral planets" setting at the bottom from 1 to 35 to change the number of neutral planets in the galaxy. Change the "Number of turns" setting from 1 to 40 to change the maximum number of turns in the game. (If you would like to add more turns later, on the last turn a prompt will appear to add more). THE GAME WINDOW =============== Taking most of the Game Window is the Galaxy Map, showing every planet's position, name, and owner (by color). By moving the mouse over a planet, you can view that planet's statistics. These statistics appear to the right of the Map. They are: * Planet Name: The name of the planet * Owner: The owner of the planet * Ships: The number of ships currently at the planet - Each player's home planet starts with 10 ships - Other planets start with half of the production level in ships * Production: How many ships are produced per turn - Ranges from 5 to 15 - Each player's home planet has a production level of 10 * Kill Percent: How strong that planet's defenses are - Ranges from 20% to 70% - Each player's home planet has a kill percent of 40% You can't view a neutral planet's statistics until after it has been captured. If you move the mouse over a captured or home planet, you can view the owner's statistics below the Planet Stats. They are: * Owner Name: The name of the player * Total Ships: How many ships the player has * Total Planets: How many planets the player owns * Total Production: How many ships the player gains per turn Below the Owner Stats, you can view the current turn ("current" of "total"), the Game Timer, and the End Turn button. At the bottom of the screen is the statusbar, which gives you shortcuts to certain actions (usually to end the turn). PLAYING THE GAME ================ In each numbered turn, each player gets an opportunity to move ships. Even if a player doesn't move any ships, any "in-transit" ships keep moving and he keeps producing ships. Look at the Game Timer's color to see whose turn it is. To move ships from a planet, click on the source planet (must be owned by you), then click the target planet (if your planet, you'll move ships; otherwise, you'll attack). In the resulting dialog box, type the number of ships you want to move. If you don't want to move any ships, click the Cancel button. A ship or group of ships can move across one square per turn. To figure out how long it takes to move between planets, click the Tools > Ruler menu item. Click the source and target planets you wish to measure, and the Ruler will tell you what turn they will arrive at the end of (you can use them in the next turn). Click the End Turn button once you are done moving ships. After each player has completed their turn, the ships will move in order of precedence. If a group of ships arrives at a planet, one of the following messages will be displayed: * "(Your name): Reinforcements have arrived for planet X" ("Fleet Arrival") Ships you sent to one of your own planets have arrived at planet X. * "Planet X has held an attack from (your name)." ("Planet Holds") You were unsuccessful at attacking planet X, neutral or otherwise. * "Planet X has fallen to (your name)." ("Planet Conquered") You defeated the natives/owner of planet X and now own that planet. * "The once mighty empire of (your name) has fallen to ruins." All of your planets have been conquered. You have lost the game. (Note: if you have ships in transit, you could still conquer a planet and get back in the game) ENDING THE GAME ================ The game ends when all of the turns have elapsed. (Bug: If only one player owns planets, you have to click Game > Stop to end the game [see "Pausing/Stopping"). The "Game Over" window displays a statistics window with each player's standings. The columns are Player, Total Ships, Total Planets, and Score. Whoever has the highest score is the winner, and is shown in bold print. The score is determined by multiplying the number of planets owned by 500, and adding the number of ships owned. Click the Close button to reset the game. PAUSING/STOPPING ================ To pause the game and stop the timer, click the Game > Pause menu item. The entire Game Window will be hidden. To start the game again, click the Game > Unpause menu item or press any key. To stop the game entirely, click the Game > Stop menu item. The "Game Over" window discussed in "Ending the Game" will appear, displaying the winner of the game. SAVING AND LOADING ================== To save the current game for future play, click the File > Save Game menu item. Using the Save dialog box, select a location and name for the game file. To load an old game for playing, click the File > Open Game menu item at any time. Using the Open dialog box, select the game file you wish to open. Play will resume at the point at which the game was saved. HOW TO CONTACT ============== Contact name: Joshua Foster Email: joshua_70448@ureach.com Webpage: http://www.jfsoftware.net
