Notes:

• Two things about that 1 x 8 Technic brick:
•     It connects on the bottom of that 1 x 4 plate, and is one stud-length away from the rest of the car (to fit the 40-tooth gear).
•     There is a Technic axle pin in that brick.  On the axle side is the 16-tooth gear. (For more clarification, view the Detail picture)  The 16- and 40-tooth gears should mesh perfectly.
