============================== MySteg 1.0 By JF Software - Joshua Foster http://www.jfsoftware.net joshua_70448@ureach.com June 4, 2003 ============================== TABLE OF CONTENTS ================= * Introduction * Encoding Text * Decoding Text * How to Contact INTRODUCTION ============ MySteg is my attempt at the art of steganography (hiding messages in pictures). Unlike my ColorEncoder program, which converts text to static, this program hides the text in a normal picture, so that it looks as though no text is hidden. ENCODING TEXT ============= First, click the LOAD IMAGE button to load a picture into the program. Use a 24-bit bitmap picture for this. Next, type your message into the Text box. Type your password into the Password box. Try to use a variety of different letters and numbers. Select an Interference Level for your message. Level 1 hides the least amount of text but doesn't "mess up" the picture very much. Level 24 will hide the most text, but completely covers the picture with static. Basically, anything above Level 4 is noticable. Below the Interference Level is the "Actual Max Chars" figure. This shows you about how many characters your message can be. This number depends on your password and interference level. Click the APPLY MESSAGE button to apply your message to the image. The green indicator bar will show you the current progress. If you get a box saying "Unable to apply all text", then your message was too long for your settings. The actual amount of text is displayed in the Text box. Otherwise, all of the text was applied. Either way, the image displayed in the program has been encoded. You can save this image by clicking the SAVE IMAGE button, or reset the image to its loaded state by clicking the RESET IMAGE button. DECODING TEXT ============= To decode an encoded picture, click the LOAD IMAGE button to load the picture into the program. Next, type the correct password into the Password box. Finally, click the READ MESSAGE button to read the message from the image into the Text box. If the password is incorrect, then a box will appear telling you that "No message found!". If you click the "Show all characters" box, then every character, whether or not the password is correct, will be shown. Note that if the password is wrong, then the text will be garbled junk. Currently, this only works for interference Level 1. HOW TO CONTACT ============== Contact name: Joshua Foster Email: joshua_70448@ureach.com Webpage: http://www.jfsoftware.net
